Tip:
If you don't have a fully active .Mac membership, you can still use Backup, but functionality will be limited. If you have a trial .Mac membership or an expired .Mac membership, Backup limits backups to 100 MB per backup. Once a full .Mac membership is activated, Backup no longer restricts backups to 100 MB.

Getting Started with Backup

Backing up your data is helpful only if you remember to do it regularly. Backup 3 can automatically back up your files on a regular schedule, so you won't have to remember to do it. When setting up a schedule for backing up your files.
  1. Download Backup and install it on your Mac.
  2. Double click the Backup icon in your Applications folder.
  3. Select the Personal Data & Settings plan from the menu of plan templates, and click Continue. (If you are upgrading from Backup 2, you will have the option of selecting your preexisting backup plan.)
  4. Double-click the plan to see what it contains.
  5. Use the Add (+) and Remove (-) buttons to add or remove files and folders.
  6. Double-click the Destination and Schedule entry if you want to adjust the backup destination or schedule.
  7. Click Back Up Now, or just close the window and wait for the scheduled back up to happen.
  8. Choose New Plan in the Plan menu to create additional plans.
