![]() Collaborate worldwide In a world that relies increasingly on the Internet, it's common to collaborate with people across town, in another part of the country, or even on the other side of the world. Your .Mac iDisk makes this easy. iDisk is personal storage space on Apple servers that you can access any time you're online. Use the Public folder of your iDisk to exchange media files and documents with friends and colleagues, especially files that are too large to email. Of course, you can also store files on your iDisk for your exclusive use; only the files you put in your Public folder are visible to others. Your iDisk comes with a ready-to-use folder structure that makes it easy to store, publish, and download files. It includes a special Software folder containing the latest .Mac applications and a Members Only folder with the latest member specials. Your .Mac membership comes with 10 GB of storage to use for your iDisk and your .Mac Mail as you choose, and you can purchase additional storage if you need it. |
Drag-and-drop file transfer Access to your iDisk is built directly into the Mac OS X Finder, as is access to the Public folders of the iDisks of other .Mac members. Transfer files by dragging them to the folder you want in the Finder window. Create folders, move files, and delete items just as if you were working on your own hard drive. And you can save and open files on your iDisk directly from virtually all Mac OS X applications. Learn more. Browser-accessible on PCs as well as Macs In addition to using the Finder, you can now use a supported web browser to access your iDisk from other computers, without downloading any special software. Just go to the .Mac home page and click iDisk. You can create folders and upload and download files from just about everywhere. PC users with Windows XP can access an iDisk just as if it were a network drive, using the free iDisk Utility for Windows. ![]() |
Special sharing for groups and Family Pack members As a .Mac member, you can dedicate a portion of your iDisk storage to the .Mac groups you create. All your group members can then use the group iDisk to share files and photos with each other, and group members who are also .Mac members can access the group iDisk directly from their own personal iDisks. .Mac members who are part of a .Mac Family Pack each get their own iDisk and each of those iDisks contains a Shared folder that's common to them all. Anything put in the Shared folder appears immediately for all the other members to use. ![]() Even though your iDisk lives online on Apple servers, you can use it when you're offline and sync back up next time you connect. (An ideal solution if you're traveling with a portable, and aren't near an Internet connection.) Just turn on iDisk Syncing in Mac OS X System Preferences whenever you're offline, you'll have access to what was in your iDisk when you disconnected, and any work you do offline will be reflected when you connect again. |
